Primary Facilities

The District’s primary facilities consist of large capacity canals (Beardsley/Lerdo and Calloway) emanating from the Kern River, approximately 1,500 acres of dedicated recharge ponds, and approximately 100 groundwater recovery wells. These facilities allow the District to effectively operate its conjunctive use project for the purpose of maintaining economic pumping lifts (groundwater levels) for District landowners. To supplement Kern River water supplies available to the District and further support groundwater levels, the District has also invested substantially in facilities that provide for the importation of State and Federal water supplies either directly by the District or through water banking and exchange programs with third parties.
